Which Religion is What
Posted Jan. 24, 2008 @ 8:15pm
Second post in one day...a rarity for me
Today I am going to touch on a very delicate topic: religion. There are quite a few religions out there to choose from. It seems as though each religion has different sects, or flavors, for that religion. I think of religion like ice cream. The flavors are the religions, and the toppings are the sects. I'm no whiz when it comes to topics like these, but I have been doing some reading on a certain religion that has gotten my interests. This religion is none other than Hinduism. The book that I first picked up is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hinduism by Linda Johnsen. Going back a little bit...why does religion cause so much conflict? Why does the majority of this conflict involve those that follow the teachings of Christ (Christian) and the ones that follow Muhammad (Islam)? I'll probably never understand it. The religions that are in Asia (Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.) all seem quite peaceful. While they are not "popular", it does not matter. In my opinion, a faith should not be chosen based on how popular it is; it should follow what a person believes in.
There are two concepts that attracted me to Hinduism. These are reincarnation and the deities that are worshiped. I was told by my parents that the ancient Celts believed in reincarnation and multiple deities that balanced things out; quite similar to Hinduism. I am going to study this religion more and I might stick with it if things look out for the better. There is one thing that is bugging me still. Would someone that has a well-rounded knowledge of religion explain to me this "conflict" that coexists along with most major religions? Does it exist with more peaceful religions such as Buddhism? If there is, then someone needs to tell me why this is going on. It seems like a racism effect; people hating others for being that of a different color or faith. It just seems all wrong to me. If religion worldwide causes this conflict, then why not just be an atheist; I don't want to partake in something that seems like racism
. You can e-mail me if you don't want to run the risk of being flamed for taking a side in religion. If you feel the need to flame me for my beliefs, then it would be best not to comment publicly...as a matter of fact, if you're going to flame me, just keep it to yourself
.
Thank you for taking the time to read a newbies position on religious practices. Feel free to comment (unless you want to start a flame war, then stay away).
All thanks to my old friend, Accius (owner of Maavfork and Maavrik), I have another album in my Killswitch Engage collection
. I am lacking two albums from my Evanescence: The Open Door and Anywhere But Home. I love Evanescence, but not as much as I love Paramore! I have both of Paramore's albums and am planning on catching them on tour eventually! Both bands feature female vocalists; both bands play different styles of music. Evanescence plays more of a "goth/emo" style. Paramore leans more toward "punk/emo". I can't find a Paramore t-shirt in my size
. I have a Slayer t-shirt, I have a MCR t-shirt too (thank you, Hot Topic).
Nerblog has a total of over 50,000 words through all of her combined posts (as taken from the stats page). I'm going to take a few days off from blogging -- I'll see you all again on my dad's birthday
.

I've been logging some major hours on Mario Kart: Super Circut for the GBA. At first the game was difficult for me to play; I'm not used to Mario Kartting with just a control pad
. My favorite character is Toad; he has the perfect speed / weight combination for me
. my second favorite is Yoshi (he steers just like Toad, but he stays on the ground more). I've got a few gold trophies, I have some silvers too
. Another game I'm into is Golden Sun. I've beat the tar out of it about four different times; I love this game! Next to Final Fantasy, Golden Sun is my favorite RPG
. Another one of my favorite games is Paper Mario. I have played and beaten both Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I have also played, but have not yet beat Super Maerio RPG. My second favorite RPG, one that I've played for eons, is Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. I have spent hours on my SNES dwindling around in this game.
I'm looking for another good MMORPG. You know, one to replace WoW
. If you know of such a treasure, please let me know
.

While sniffing around 4chan, I ran across the 2008 Evangelion calendar. I put it on my server; it's right here. You can print it out and hang it oh your wall
. If you like Neon Genesis Evangelion, you will really love this calendar! It features the whole Eva crew; it has all twelve months laid out in six different files (that's two months per character for those at home keeping score). If you want another anime calendar, just ask me. Before asking me though, I'd suggest you Google around and maybe search 4chan. The /rs/ board on 4chan lists several files on Rapidshare and Megaupload for download. The /rs/ board on 4chan is really worth checking out for anything internet / anime related. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me for assistance.
I did some work around Nerblog today. I set up a statistics page. It features server size, ip, blog and comment entries. It even has an overall word count for all the blog entries. It is accessable via the menu "Miscellaneous" at the top of this page! I also fixed the archives -- they are now in the proper order. I also added pagination to the main blog system; I have yet to split category views into pages. I really should do that since the personal category puts 89 entries on to a single page. I will get that ironed out tomorrow
.
Yesterday, I watched Mr. Woodcock for the second time. It is the story of a mean P.E. coach and a poor little fat kid. The gym coach (Mr. Woodcock; played by Billy Bob Thorton) eventually winds up dating the Farley's (little fat kid) mom in the future. Farley writes a self-help book; he finds out that he is having trouble following his own advice! This is a must-see comedy for all ages -- rent it today
!
That's all for now! I'm off to play Mario Kart: Super Circut on my GBA! I might play Golden Sun instead...I'll post again soon

Mixed Preparations
Posted Jan. 22, 2008 @ 12:35pm
I have some rather sad news regarding the movie blog I was planning to set up. Movie Gallery is putting a stop to their MVP program; I no longer get free rentals
. I will however, keep a category for movies; this just means I'll rate a movie maybe three times per month ( if I post anything that month ;) ). I'll start once I get my mangy paws on the new Family Guy movie; Family Guy -- Blue Harvest. I will also be accepting guest reviews. Just e-mail me a movie review that you made and I just might post it
.
I have 2894 tracks in my music database; I prefer to purchase music rather than download it ( support the artists! ). I want to get some more Slayer and Lacuna Coil. Once I get the spare cash, I'm going to head over to amazon and get me some more albums.
My dad's birthday is coming up on January 28th; I got him an awesome gift
. He loves history -- he really likes wars. He reads historical and alternate history novels all the time. I went out on a limb and purchased him a DVD instead of a book. I got him a copy of Letters from Iwo Jima
. I gave him his present a few days ago...I couldn't stand the pressure of waiting till his birthday! I'm going to bake him some muffins for his birthday when it comes time
.
One last thing...I am totally done with Dirty Grandpa. I don't even want to see him during visitation following his death. I have had dreams of murdering him with my bare hands. I don't want to say exactly what he did to piss me off so badly...it was bad, let's leave it at that

More Blogs!
Posted Jan. 16, 2007 @ 4:45pm
This last Sunday, I went to see a movie entitled Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It was a sickening romantically based comedy that gives a whole new meaning to "meat pie". I also rented Ice Spiders; nothing like watching giant spiders gobble up skiers. I'm not going to review these movies myself; look them up on wikipeida
!
I will soon open a movie blog to review all of the cenima I watch. One last thing in this short post: Larry the Cable guy's real name is "Daniel Lawrence Whitney"! I'll have the movie blog up in a month or so. I'll post around this time again tomorrow!

Review: Halloween
Posted Jan. 12, 2008 @ 9:30pm
Today's movie is a rather new take on an old horror; the review will be very brief as I don't want to spoil anything. Rob Zombie did a remake of Halloween, which is the story following a young socialpath and his rather gruesome killings.
This newer version is way more gory than that of her predecessor. Not only is it more gory, but there are more murder scenes to boot! The music and action are both in so much more sync than that of the older Halloween. It also has some of the more..."classic" murder scenes to boot! This is much more than your classic slasher flick: this is the kind that can actually give you a nightmare or two. For that reason I give a 9/10 for the horror category.
The sound quality was excellent! Tyler Bates did a wonderful job at composing the soundtrack. It had some old tunes from the original movie, plus some new ones that really sent things into motion. I say that the sound gets an 8/10.
That's all for now! I'm no good at making movie reviews cause I spoil the endings
. I'll try better on my next one! Overall I give the film an 8.5/10.

Sorry I didn't post a few days back. Dirty Grandpa broke the final straw. I'm not up to snuff atm, I'll post more about it tomorrow! Here's a funny tidbit from an anonymous conversation.
That is all; I'll post some movie rants either tomorrow or Sunday!

Movie Blog?
Posted Jan. 8, 2008 @ 8:05pm
"I promise that I will post more often; I am getting into the process of watching movies. I'll be sure to talk about them in future posts!"
I posted that five to six days ago. I realize that I haven't been all too true to that statement, but give me some time! During my "vacation", I rent and spent many a time watching movies. Over this past week I have rented and watched at least ten different movies. I've also seen two movies on the big screen!
I found the deal of a lifetime at Movie Gallery. They run a program called the "MVP" program. I have no idea what "MVP" stands for, but it grants me unlimited rentals for a whole month. There are only two catches: only two rentals out at a time (this includes video games) and the item must have a blue sticker on it. I estimate 75 percent of the store inventory has the infamous blue sticker attached. A friend of mine got the same deal; we rent a total of four movies and rob the store dry
.
I'm contemplating starting a movie blog, but I don't know if I should or not. Drop me a line or leave a comment on your opinion. I will post again tomorrow!

New Leaf
Posted Jan. 2, 2008 @ 7:00pm
It's been quite a few weeks since my last entry. It's just been the same old, boring shit this holiday season. Dirty Grandpa and one of my cousins were over for Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner (we celebrate both). Clothes and money were given away for Christmas presents. I purchased books for my folks (they love to read!). I got two hoodies, some socks, and $150.00.
Ah New Year's Day. A chance to throw the past behind and make resolutions for the upcoming year! I have two simple resolutions. I want to work out harder and more frequently. I also want to get back into the university this fall semester. What are your resolutions; tell me, please! It's funny yet tragic how some people make a resolution to get fit. 95% of the people will give up by March
.
